You might have heard people talking about eating a detox diet to help cleanse their body. This is usually practiced by people who desire to periodically cleanse their body, as simply living and breathing fills the body with toxins from junk meals and other processed foods as well as the environment.
What we want to do here is look at some natural foods that we can incorporate into our diets to help detoxify our bodies.
Everyone knows that greens are great for our bodies. Some popular greens to consider include: Watercress, spinach, spirulina, alfalfa, chard, kale, arugula and others. These greens are great additions to your diet. They increase the chlorophyll levels in your digestive tract which in turn facilitates the removal of toxins like herbicides, smog, cleaning products, heavy metals and others.
Fruits are some of the most helpful additions to our diets. This is not just about detox diet. This is about healthy diet. As you load up on fresh fruits, you are sure you are getting lots of vitamins, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients that are sure to keep your body clean and healthy. Just don't overdo fruit, as most contain a lot of sugar, and just because the sugar comes from an apple doesn't mean that sugar is somehow magically more healthy than the sugar from a candy bar. The only difference is, a candy bar doesn't have all the additional minerals and nutrients that fruit has. However, never forget that sugar is sugar.
Fruits from the citrus family like lemons, limes and oranges are loaded with vitamin C. It is also known that lemon juice can help detoxify the liver so it can perform better.
When detoxifying, it is highly recommended to use certain omega 3 oils. Use flax seed oils, avocado, olive oil or hemp. These would line the intestinal walls and absorb the toxins from the body for easy removal from the system.
Who does not know that nuts are great? Nuts are wonderful for the body - almond nuts, hemp seeds, walnuts, sesame seeds etc. We all know our nuts. It is however advisable that you stay away from nut butter for effective detoxification.
There are other foods that are hailed as being great for detoxification. These include: Garlic, ginger, artichokes, beets, cabbage etc. If there is anything we should understand about detox diet, it is that they are basically healthy foods.
We can therefore talk about healthy foods if the term "detox diet" is frowned at by some. Incorporate these foods in your diet and you would be sure that your body is receiving food that would keep it healthy and clean.
