From time to time, your body finds itself fending off harmful stimuli like damaged cells, pathogens or irritants. Normally this marks the initial stage of the healing process. It however can get out of hand and regenerate in rheumatoid arthritis. Such a condition, also called inflammation is not very easy to bear, can hurt the body and is associated with obesity, cancer and heart condition. It is comforting to note that inflammation can be reduced using natural approaches like foods and diet. The best anti inflammatory foods usually are low in both saturated fats and sugar.
One of the best anti inflammatory foods probably is fatty fish. Salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines have very high concentrations of omega 3 fatty acids which help bring down inflammation. To benefit optimally from fatty fish, you will need to eat several servings a week. These need to be either baked or boiled. These healthy ways of preparing fish also help you substantially cut the risk of heart disease.
Consuming whole grains is another great way of reducing inflammation. Whole grains have more fiber and less added sugar. They also actively bring down the levels of C-reactive protein which is known to indicate inflammation in the bloodstream. When shopping for whole grain foods, choose those that indicate this food category as the first ingredient.
Another set of best anti inflammatory foods are nuts and the good old dark leafy greens. Nuts are very rich in healthy fats; the kinds that help reduce inflammation. Almonds for instance have high concentrations of fiber, vitamin E and calcium. Walnuts are great too as they contain some kind of omega 3 fat called alpha-linolenic acid which works well in suppressing inflammation.
Aside from these two, most nuts fall in the category of the best anti inflammatory foods. This is because they have substantial levels of antioxidants which help the body fend off as well as repair inflammation related damages. Leafy greens on the other hand are a good source of vitamin E which protects the body from pro-inflammatory molecules cytokines. Spinach, collard greens, broccoli and kale top the least of the leafy greens that work best to reduce inflammation.
