Arthritis can be described a health disorder that encompasses both joint inflammation and pain. Actually, it includes a wide range of conditions that consist of inflammation and pain in one or more joints. While it is true that a poor diet could be the leading cause of arthritis, some doctors have strongly emphasized there is no solid evidence that proves that one food or another can aggravate joint pain or inflammation. Additionally, there is no definitive arthritis diet, but limiting foods that may trigger arthritis can help a lot. Nonetheless, here is a list of foods that aggravate arthritis.
According to a study report published recently in the Journal of Neurological and Orthopedic Medical Surgery, it has emerged that the nightshade family of vegetables is the most prominent group of foods that aggravate arthritis. It comprises of foods like eggplant, peppers, white potatoes and tomatoes which can worsen your arthritis condition when consumed. Basically, this can be attributed to the fact that nightshades contain a chemical compound know as Solanine that interferes with enzymes in the muscles, especially in sensitive people.
Saturated Fats and Trans-fats
As much it's quite evident that certain healthy fats like olive oil can help suppress inflammation, a good number of trans-fats and saturated fats can worsen your condition. In fact, some nutritionists and health experts have listed these fats as some of the most common foods that aggravate arthritis. For instance, the animal fat contained in animal products like regular cheese, bacon, fatty pork, whole and 2 percent milk can contribute to a range of health complications and can intensify inflammation associated with arthritis.
Sugars and Refined Carbs
Unfortunately, sugars and processed carbs are some of the most consumed foods that aggravate arthritis considering how tasty they are. Ideally, high amounts of sugars and refined carbs in your diet can result in an upsurge in an advanced glycation end product (AGE), a toxin that appears when foods are heated, fried, grilled or pasteurized. The AGE mainly damages certain proteins in your body that are responsible for joint health.
