Inflammation is a component of your body's immune response and without inflammation your body will be unable to heal. Inflammation can damage your body if it gets out of control like in rheumatoid arthritis.
Foods rich in saturated fats and sugars stimulate inflammation by causing over-activity in your immune system leading to the damaging of blood vessels, fatigue and joint pain.
Some of the foods that form part of anti inflammatory foods list include:
a) Fatty Fish
Oily fish like mackerel, tuna, salmon and sardines have high omega 3 fatty acid content and form part of anti inflammatory foods list. You need to eat fatty fish several times per week to get the benefits.
b) Whole Grains
Whole grains have a huge amount of fiber content. Studies show that fiber reduces C-reactive proteins in the body. C-reactive proteins normally heighten inflammation in the blood.
c) Dark Leafy Greens
Dark green vegetables like broccoli, collard greens, kale and spinach contain vitamin E that helps protect your body from cytokines molecules that cause inflammation. These vegetables also contain minerals like iron and calcium that fight phytochemicals.
Nuts, particularly almonds, have a high fiber, vitamin E and calcium content and form part of anti inflammatory foods list.
Boiled soy and soy milk contain isoflavones that help in fighting inflammation in the body.
Hot pepper like cayenne and chili contain capsaicin that helps lower inflammation in your body.
Tomatoes contain lycopene which helps in the lowering of inflammation in the body.
Beetroot juice and beets contain vitamin C, betalains and fiber to help protect your body against heart diseases, cancer and help lower inflammation in the body.
i) Olive Oil
Oleocanthal is a compound that gives olive oil its taste and has an effect of lowering inflammation in the body.
Blueberries contain an anthocyanins chemical that helps in fighting inflammation in the body.
