Healthy eating is an issue that many Americans currently struggle with. A typical American diet is often high in processed fats that lead to significant health problems for many people. One of the main reasons for this is due to the power of the processed food industry. A lot of marketing money is spent on convincing people to make bad choices when it comes to food. This is a particular problem for families with children as young minds are more likely to be susceptible to the pressures of advertising. One great way to combat this threat to our nation's children is by playing healthy eating games.
Healthy eating games can take a number of forms. They should be educational and fun in order to convey the message to kids that making smart choices when it comes to food is not a burden and is in fact a blessing. One of the most popular type of healthy eating games involves showing kids a range of different foods and asking them to identify them by name. This is a great way to familiarize the younger generation with alternatives to the processed food that advertising bombards them with.
Other types of healthy eating games can be used to educate and inform people of other ages. You may wish to play a game with your teen, for example, that involves them identifying the relative protein and carb values of various foods. This is a great way to combat the popular stereotype that protein can only be found in animal food, as opposed to plants, such as spinach, broccoli and legumes, that have even higher protein values than animal food.
Games such as these help to get across the benefits of eating healthy in a way which is more engaging than a traditional educational perspective. By learning these games, you are taking an active role in promoting our future health.
