If you suffer from arthritis or joint inflammation, you can control the condition by the food that you eat. This is a natural way of controlling inflammation. Foods that are anti inflammatory are those that reduce inflammation in the body and the joints. These are often plant foods. The way they reduce inflammation is that they have protective compounds which reduce inflammation. These foods also prevent flare ups and may completely stop inflammation. Food that is high in sugars, carbohydrates and fat will greatly increase the chances of inflammation recurring.
Vegetables are foods that are anti inflammatory. Vegetables such as kale are very high in vitamin and mineral content. Foods that are high in vitamins and minerals are anti inflammatory because they have antioxidant properties. Foods with antioxidant properties help reduce joint pain and aches. Cruciferous vegetables for example broccoli and cauliflower are anti inflammatory because they are high in antioxidants which help the body to get rid of inflammation causing compounds. Whole grains are foods that are anti inflammatory and a better choice than eating refined products. When they are unrefined they have crucial vitamins and minerals that have anti inflammatory properties that are stripped by refining them.
Good oil is helpful for reducing inflammation. Oily fish that contains high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines are some of the best types of foods that are anti inflammatory. To gain the greatest benefits from the fish bake, boil or steam it. You can also take a fish oil supplement. Nuts are also a good source of oil. Walnuts, almonds, pecans and other nuts help to reduce inflammation. Drink more green tea and reduce your caffeine intake as green tea has anti inflammation properties because of the flavanoids present. Spices such as turmeric, chili peppers and ginger help to reduce inflammation in the body.
